2023 Annual Water Quality Report

On March 5, 2024, NepRWA’s science staff presented data on bacteria, oxygen, and nutrient levels observed during the 2023 water sampling year in the Neponset River, streams, and ponds. The hybrid presentation was attended by Watershed residents and volunteers from NepRWA’s Community Water Monitoring Network (CWMN), who are an essential component of the water sampling program. The presentation is available for viewing in both PDF format and video below.

Overall, the data revealed results comparable to previous years; however, our waterways continue to exhibit elevated bacteria concentrations during wet weather conditions. NepRWA is collaborating with Watershed towns to enhance the health of our water resources by implementing stormwater improvements, including bioswales, rain gardens, and other green infrastructure. Additionally, we are conducting educational campaigns to promote responsible dog waste disposal and reduce fertilizer usage

We also had guest speaker, Natalie Burgo, Remedial Project Manager from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, Region 1, who discussed the basics of Superfund and provided updates on the progress of the cleanup planning for the Lower Neponset Superfund Site Project.
