King Tide Talk

October 9, 2025 @ 12:00 pm
Join the Quincy Department of Natural Resources’ Environmental Treasures Program in partnership with the Neponset River Watershed Association (NepRWA) for a rare look at one of the year’s highest tides (11.9 feet) as it floods Quincy’s salt marshes.
The tour will be led by Sean McCanty, River Restoration Director at NepRWA, who will explain king tides and highlight efforts to prepare the Neponset Estuary for sea level rise and climate change through salt marsh restoration, flood modeling, and other resilience projects.
This will be a leisurely one-mile walk along sidewalks, with a short section up a dirt path containing rocks and gravel on uneven terrain. For safety reasons, dogs are not permitted.
What is a King Tide?
“King Tide” is a non-scientific term to describe exceptionally high tides that occur during a new or full moon.
They provide a unique opportunity to see how coastal flooding will affect our neighborhoods every day in the future as the sea level continues to rise.
Space is limited! Registration is required by emailing sowen@quincyma.gov with the number of people in your group. Tour details, including meeting location, will be provided upon registration.
