Recap: Neponset Cleanup Fall 2023

On Saturday, September 23rd, more than 100 volunteers spread out across nine different locations in Canton, Dorchester, Hyde Park, Mattapan, Norwood, Quincy, and Milton to help clean up trash and debris along the Neponset River, its tributaries, and surrounding parks.

Managed by dedicated site captains and community leaders, the volunteers collected over one hundred and twenty bags of trash. Some of the more interesting finds include an entertainment center, two old bikes, a ladder, ten coconuts, construction debris, multiple tires, vintage beer bottles, money, shoes, dozens of bottle caps and plastic bottles, tools, and a singular rollerblade. Out of the nine cleanup sites, eight were held on DCR property and DCR reports picking up about 9 tons of trash!
