Responding Together: Climate Resilience in the Neponset Watershed

NepRWA and its project partners have been planning for the impacts of climate change—such as more flooding, hotter summers, and stronger storms.

With funding from the state’s Municipal Vulnerability Preparedness (MVP) Program to the Town of Dedham, the team has been developing new tools to help communities across the Neponset Watershed prepare for and reduce climate risks.

On June 16^th, the team held a virtual public meeting to share updates and gather feedback.

Resilient Neponset Climate Collaborative

Municipal staff from cities and towns across the Watershed have come together to finalize a work plan to guide climate adaptation planning and implementation projects and ways to fund them. These projects include strategies to address both local and regional climate priorities identified by both staff and residents. The goal is to help communities work together more effectively to maintain public health and safety as the climate changes.

Resilient Neponset Community Advisory Committee

This committee, which includes residents from the partner communities, has been meeting regularly over the last two years. Participants have learned about potential climate adaptation strategies and how to influence local planning to ensure that projects address the needs of those who live and work in the Watershed.

Resilient Neponset Flood Model

The Resilient Neponset Flood Model is a computer-based tool developed to support projects that may reduce climate-driven flood increases in the future. Towns can use the model to identify areas of higher risk of flooding in the future. The model highlights the need for significant resource investment and interventions to keep people, properties, and infrastructure safe.
