A watershed is an area of land that drains into a body of water, like a river, pond, or lake.

The Neponset River Watershed contains:

  • 120 square miles of land
  • the 29-mile-long Neponset River – beginning at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough and ending at the rainbow-painted gas tank by the Route 93 expressway in Dorchester
  • 14 communities, including Boston (Hyde Park, Mattapan, Dorchester), Canton, Dedham, Dover, Foxborough, Medfield, Milton,
    Norwood, Quincy, Randolph, Sharon, Stoughton, Walpole, and Westwood
  • 120,000 residents who get some or all of their drinking water from within the watershed
  • 330,000 people that live, work, and play in the Neponset River Watershed
