On the Water

Swimming, boating, and fishing opportunities are plentiful, from the River’s headwaters in Foxborough to local ponds and the estuary, where it flows into Dorchester Bay.

Note: Several dams on the Neponset River prevent uninterrupted paddling.

Some of our favorite water-based locations include:

Paddle Advisory: On March 14, 2022, the EPA designated a 3.7-mile stretch of the Lower Neponset River—from the confluence with Mother Brook in Hyde Park to the Walter Baker Dam in Milton/Dorchester Lower Mills—as a Superfund site.

Water Quality

How do I know if the water in my town is clean for swimming, boating, or fishing?

For the most up-to-date information on water quality in your town, check with your local board of health or town website.

While NepRWA monitors water quality in local streams and ponds, the collected data primarily captures trends over time rather than daily fluctuations.

Report a Problem.

You can help keep our streams and ponds clean by reporting suspicious activity, spills, or dumping near the water or storm drains.

Email the Neponset Stormwater Hotline at stormwater@neponset.org or give us a call at 781-575-0354 x 300.
