Behind the Story: Five Decades of Work to Restore the Neponset River

Sam Norton is a journalist with Environmental Monitor, a magazine published by Fondriest Environmental that covers environmental monitoring and research. Based in Ohio, Sam writes about water quality research, environmental restoration, and conservation across the country.

For a recent article, Sam turned his attention to the Neponset River, exploring how decades of water quality monitoring, restoration work, and community involvement have helped improve the river—and what it takes to keep that progress going.

He spoke with NepRWA’s River Restoration Director, Sean McCanty, about the watershed’s history, the role of water quality data in identifying problems, and why working with local communities is central to NepRWA’s approach.

Fondriest Environmental has partnered with NepRWA for more than 10 years, and we’re glad Sam chose to highlight the work happening throughout the Neponset Watershed.
